Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 21, 2026
Vocca ("we", "the extension") is a browser extension that translates messages you compose on WhatsApp Web. This policy explains what data Vocca accesses, how it is used, and what it is not used for.
Data we collect
- Message text you choose to translate. When you click the Vocca translate button, the text currently in your WhatsApp Web compose box is sent to our translation server to be translated.
- Language preference. Your selected target language is stored locally in your browser via the
chrome.storage.local API, so you don't have to reselect it every session.
What we do not collect
- We do not read, store, or log your WhatsApp messages, contacts, or chat history.
- We do not collect your browsing history outside of the WhatsApp Web compose box interaction described above.
- We do not use any data for advertising, profiling, or sell it to third parties.
How translation works
Only the text you actively submit for translation is sent to our translation server. Our architecture is stateless: message text is processed to generate a translation and is not retained afterward.
Permissions we request and why
- activeTab — required to display the Vocca translate button inside the WhatsApp Web page you're viewing.
- storage — required to remember your on/off toggle and language preference between sessions.
Changes to this policy
If our data practices change, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date above before the change takes effect.
